Major type of telecommunication tower

Self-Supporting Towers

Self-Supporting towers are typically made from strong steel frame and segmentally constructed with triangular (3 legs) or rectangular (4 legs) base. The self-supporting towers afford the greatest flexibility and able to withstand high wind pressure and rough geographic conditions.

This type of tower is suitable for heavy loading condition and may be built from 30 meters up to 130 meters in height. The Self-Supporting towers require a larger footprint than poles, but still need a much smaller area than guyed towers.

Guyed Mast Towers

Guyed Mast Towers are straight towers which are supported by steel guy cables anchoring 3 sides of the towers to the ground/on the rooftop. Unlike Self-Supporting towers, guyed mast towers do not taper as they rise and each section of the towers has the same width.

Guyed Mast Tower require larger area for installation but can be built from 15 meters up to 150 meters depending on the use of the towers.

Monopole Towers

Monopole towers are made of galvanized steel which are hollow and tapered on top. It can be built from 30 meters up to 60 meters in height.

The monopole towers usually require lesser footprint than the self-supporting towers and guyed mast towers making this type of towers suitable in the urban area.
